This is an absolutely fabulous book, not just because it reads like a novel but also gives an easily understandable picture of vaccines generally, the relationship COVID has to AIDS, and what scientist have been doing for the last two years. Each of the characters are compelling and you gain real insight into what their motivations are. Zuckerman takes very complicated scientific topics and makes them easy to understand and elegant. This should be a must read for anyone who is looking to get vaccinated, is thinking about the next pandemic, or wants to know what is going on with our brave new world. It almost completely ignores that huge undertaking, first by BARDA and then by Operation Warp Speed, in bringing the vaccine to the public in less than 11 months. The longtime Wall Street journalist’s industry knowledge is obvious but his prose is inviting.
